I can’t help but feel that Justine is an expert at only showing outright (but genuine) affection like this to Lilja when she has gotten her thoroughly reproached for her screw ups. Keeps the kids in line without going too soft on em.
And so this scene got from intense to heartwarming. Regardless of her age, Lilja behaves in some ways still like a child. And Justine protects her like any loving mother would do.
This is actually some great character development here.

I think this shows a nice side of Lilja not often seen in other artworks. very nicely done guys
That’s sweet. Mothers are the only ones who will tear you one, then still hug you after that.
What she meant to say is “no one lays a hand on my daughter except me”.
