Diaz and, consequentially, her superior are again only seen in shadow. Good decision. Makes them seem more dangerously and mysterious.
When I first read the Volume 2 interlude I first thought that that was the first appearance of Catalina, but I actually had forgotten that she and her rival Sully actually showed up before in here. These two are the main villains in the special “Tangled”, which is set some years before the events of this main plot, is massively inspired in its first chapter by the movie “Bound” (which any lover of DiD-scenes should know!) and tells the story of how Lilja and Zhao met each other. A worth read, because its funny and interesting regarding the backstory of some characters. Catalina and Sully are actually among the meanest characters in the entire Semla-universe, but only the former will be important later on. At least in the interlude.
Unlike the others, the Tenshen gangsters are totally new characters to me, so I don’t know anything about them, but they for sure all look menacing.
Cvet seems to be a nymphomaniac of some sorts, am I right? She’s obviously developing a crush on every handsome, muscled and/or macho-like man she sees. Not a very healthy or sane habit, because all of these are extremely dangerous people. But given that she’s the daughter of the powerful ruler of a whole country I doubt that anyone of them would dare doing something really bad to her. I imagined each of them throwing her out of their lodges because she annoyed them, though. Like Jazz in many episodes of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”. I would have loved it if you have included additionial panels showing this like the one with Julia in Chapter 5. That would have been another great running gag. But this page is already hilarious enough in itself, so I’m not complaining. 😀
